Ray Quinney & Nebeker’s Shareholder Skye Lazaro was interviewed on ABC4 Utah on Tuesday, April 8, 2024, after Tyler Thompson, a Utah resident, was recently released and returned to US custody after being detained for almost a year in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Mr. Thompson was taken into DRC custody in May 2024 and later convicted of participating in an attempted coup. He was initially sentenced to death, with two other Americans, but later, the sentence was commuted to life in prison.

Throughout his detention, Ms. Lazaro worked closely with Thompson’s family, local officials, and federal agencies, including the US State Department, to facilitate his safe return home.

“This was an incredibly complex situation involving international legal and diplomatic channels,” said Lazaro. “The collaborative efforts of Tyler’s family, government representatives, and legal counsel were critical in bringing him home.”

Mr. Thompson returned to Utah in early April, and his family has expressed profound gratitude for the legal support and advocacy provided throughout the ordeal.
