Nathan Orme is an Of Counsel attorney whose practice focuses on helping companies protect their inventions through strong patents.
Nathan has practiced for over a decade managing global patent portfolios, leading patent prosecution teams, and counseling clients on infringement, validity, and freedom-to-operate issues. He advises clients on patent procurement, portfolio strategy, and intellectual property protection across a wide range of technical fields. With a strong foundation in chemistry and a decade of experience in the machining industry, Nathan brings both scientific insight and practical engineering perspective to his work with companies in sectors including separation technologies, advanced materials, drill bits and bearing apparatuses used in oil and gas exploration drilling systems, electrochemical devices, batteries, medical devices, and mechanical devices. His work includes preparing patent applications and opinions in technologies such as hydrogen production and extraction, gasifiers, plasma reformers, polycrystalline diamond tools, batteries, thin film coatings, and software systems. Nathan also supports corporate transactions through IP due diligence and regularly works with international counsel on coordinated prosecution and oppositions.
Earlier in his career, Nathan served as a law clerk and patent agent at Ceramatec Incorporated, where he handled patents related to electrochemical and ceramic materials, and as a clinical intern at Intermountain Healthcare’s Invention Development Office. He earned his J.D. with honors from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law and holds a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Utah.
