Ray Quinney & Nebeker is pleased to share that shareholder Jeffrey W. Shields has been selected Chair of the University of Utah School of Music Advisory Board. He succeeds Michelle Michie, who has served in the role for the past three years.

Members of the School of Music Advisory Board serve as advocates for the School both on campus and within the broader community. The Board supports and promotes its students, faculty, and programs, while also helping to ensure the School’s continued strength through volunteer leadership, identifying and supporting funding opportunities, and providing strategic input on operations and growth.

Jeff brings decades of legal experience alongside a deep and longstanding commitment to the performing arts. A member of the Utah State Bar since 1980, he has built a distinguished legal career while remaining actively engaged in Utah’s arts community. He joined the board of the original Utah Opera Company in 1987 and continues to serve in various capacities with what is now the Utah Symphony | Utah Opera. He is also a longtime board member of Jazz Arts of the Mountain West and previously served on the board of the Park City Jazz Foundation.

Jeff’s dedication to the arts is both professional and personal—he often reflects fondly on the time his two children participated as child performers in Utah Opera productions.

The University of Utah School of Music is a nationally accredited program dedicated to educating, inspiring, and serving through music. With a rich history and a commitment to artistic excellence, scholarship, and community engagement, the School plays a vital role in shaping creative leaders and enriching Utah’s cultural landscape.
