All Good Things Must End – Estate Planning in Anticipation of the 2026 Sunset Laws
In 2021, the Biden administration proposed massive changes to the estate and gift tax laws. While those proposals did not go through, more changes will certainly be introduced depending on future elections and changes in the economic climate. Furthermore, absent action by Congress, significant changes are on the way in 2026 due to the sunset of certain provisions of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, like cutting the federal estate tax exemption in half. One way or another, future alterations to the estate planning world are always a possibility and your planning should take that into consideration.
