Members of the Ray Quinney & Nebeker’s Women Lawyers Group volunteered on December 20 at Candy Cane Corner. They spent several hours cleaning and organizing the store by sorting books, crafts, toys, and clothing, as well as organizing winter wear items such as hats and gloves for adults, children and babies.
Kamie Brown, who organized the event on behalf of the women lawyers said, “The women attorneys of RQ&N were privileged to spend an evening together last month at Candy Cane Corner working to improve the holiday season in some measure for those who are homeless or in transitional housing situations. We see the great need that exists in our community to provide service in many ways, and hope to make a difference.”
Candy Cane Corner is a holiday store that provides a dignified and empowering opportunity for low-income families and individuals who are participating in programs at the YWCA of Salt Lake, The Road Home, and Volunteers of America, Utah to select new holiday gifts for their families.
Each year Candy Cane Corner ensures that hundreds of families have a warm and full holiday season. We are proud to celebrate our 15th year of helping families in need celebrate the holidays. This wonderful holiday program is only possible because of the support and generosity we receive from our community. In 2010 Candy Cane Corner helped 645 families celebrate the holidays. 1427 children were given new clothes and gifts through Candy Cane Corner last year and 631 adults also received needed items.
